Distanced Generations

youth once sought age

drawn to knowledge

revered, a sage.

youth once inhaled

to breathe, take in

wisdom unfailed.

now, sneers deride

the palsied pace

and shortened strides

that distance generations.

youth once sought age

in parallel thought

not in rebel rage.

youth once grew shaded

by sheltering groves

now bare and faded.

Tradition's not the only cost

when history's rewirtten.

Steeply priced knowledge's lost

to distanced generations.
